Geowaltz is a light installation that illuminates the presence of nature’s fragments within urban spaces, celebrating our essential bond with the natural world. Through a vibrant digital “waltz” of color, light, and geometry, Geowaltz merges intricate geometric visuals with projection mapping techniques on translucent perspex. The result is a glowing, layered surface that pulses with movement and color, inviting viewers to reconnect with nature’s beauty even within city environments.
Developed in collaboration with neurodiverse young people, Geowaltz emerged from a series of co-creation workshops led by artist Rebecca. Together, the group explored how time spent outdoors positively impacts mental health. Inspired by these conversations, participants ventured on nature walks, collecting video clips and natural color palettes, which were later woven into the installation.
By bringing urban audiences closer to nature’s rhythms, Geowaltz underscores the importance of balancing our modern lives with the natural world and the need to protect these spaces for future generations. This piece reflects on how fostering this connection not only supports our mental well-being but also strengthens our commitment to conserving natural habitats.
